Networks fear internet TV worldtvpc.com
The big TV networks around the world are predicted to lose as much as 75% advertising revenue over the next 10 years due of a switch of viewing internet streams, including consumers watching TV delivered through an internet connection.

Only a few years ago startups such as Skype and VoiceBuster gave the telecom industry a real scare by allowing people to make telephone calls over the Internet free of charge. They forced telecom operators to cannibalize their traditional voice revenues with VoIP services. It was one of the reasons for the telcos to start investing in IPTV. Now there is a new threat for the telcos in the form of Internet TV. Will new players again traumatize the telecom industry by undermining the telcos nascent IPTV services?

Seemingly every major set manufacturer unveiled models that can offer video from the Internet, while the brands already selling Internet-ready sets announced support for a wider range of sites. Sony, Samsung, LG and Vizio all said they would produce TVs that can display Yahoo's TV Widgets, a bit of software that any website can use to deliver content from the Net. In short, "cable ready" has given way to "Internet ready." |
